POP UP BOOKS!? WHY?
SIMPLE POP UP TECHNIQUES
Pop up books are not only for children although associated with younger literature.
I started today with some basic YouTube tutorials and created some simple folds.
The idea is to use some simple folds where I could glue paper elements onto them. To achieve it I have to rethink the entire book design. At the moment I would have to use different spine and binding method to add those elements.

After reaching out to Sarah Bodman at UWE I was sent some interesting link to artists like: Linda Toigo on www.lindatoigo.com [accessed 14.12.20].
She creates some exceptional paper cutout narratives and paper art. I particularly enjoy how her skills are being used in various disciplines, from illustration to design to exhibition space. The book below is constructed with rather simple imagery, printed on thick cards, presumably linocuts with cutout elements. It's a great example of a simple layout creating a stunning piece.Although my work is purposely digital, I could possibly use this method to add cutout elements within certain illustrations. It would mean the paper needs to be much thicker to hold the cutouts well. A possible idea to explore and develop in the future?

There are some very unconventional ideas on books and book design. I'm not sure this is something I want to explore at this moment. I'm looking at what can be added to a finished book. I like the idea of puppetry as a limited-edition item sold together. I could create a character from 'Blue'. One-eyed cyclops creatures could be a quirky addition to my book. I could develop this idea in the future.

The example above is a very abstract idea on book design. It doesn't fit with my work at the moment but I enjoy how abstract and innovative the book design can be.

Another beautiful example of book art. Not fitted with my concept but love the idea.

I really enjoy how his work is filmed and presented. Not usual theme I would go for but it looks professional and brilliantly design.
